Komen CSNJ’s Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day Breakfast will connect women to vital breast reconstruction information, services, and expertise.
Join us for an engaging panel discussion led by four board-certified plastic surgeons, breakfast and giveaways. Panel participants will include Drs. Robert Herbstman, Gary Tuma, Joanna Partridge and Michael Rose.
With less than 23 percent of breast cancer patients aware of the breast reconstruction choices available after mastectomy, the goal of Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day is to educate, engage, and empower women to make the reconstruction decision that is best for them following a breast cancer diagnosis.

Dr. Robert A. Herbstman
Robert A. Herbstman, MD FACS is the Medical Director/Owner of Contemporary Plastic Surgery with offices in Monmouth and Middlesex County, New Jersey. Dr. Herbstman is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is the Immediate Past President of the New Jersey Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is a longstanding member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Herbstman specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast and body and is a founding member of the Breast Center at Saint Peter’s University Hospital. Recently, he was honored to receive the Susan G. Komen Foundation Leadership award for his career-long commitment to treating breast cancer patients. Dr. Herbstman is also recognized as a Top Cosmetic Surgeon by Castle Connolly and has been listed as a Top Plastic Surgeon by NY Magazine and NJ Monthly Magazine.
Dr. Joanna Partridge
A cum laude graduate from Lawrenceville School and from Duke University, Dr. Joanna L. Partridge returned to her hometown of Princeton, NJ to open her practice.
She is a board-certified female plastic surgeon and owner of Partridge Plastic Surgery, with offices in Princeton and North Brunswick. She is skilled in all aspects of cosmetic and plastic surgery, including breast augmentation, liposuction, and minimally invasive procedures.
Dr. Partridge earned her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where she was the president of the American Medical Women’s Association and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, a distinction given only to the top ten percent of medical students in the nation. Following medical school, she completed an integrated residency in general and plastic surgery at the prestigious, University of Chicago Hospitals.
Dr. Partridge is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is an active member of the American Society for Plastic Surgeons. She is honored to serve on the Board of Directors for the New Jersey Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Dr. Michael I. Rose
Dr. Rose is skilled in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, including breast reconstruction, and is one of the few doctors who specialize in complex nerve decompression surgery for those suffering from all forms of neuropathy. He also specializes in chest wall stabilization for sternal nonunion and instability following cardiac surgery.
He received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and went on to complete his five-year general surgery residency at New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital. There, he was selected as Executive Chief Resident and won the award for Best Surgical Educator for that year. During his residency, he undertook a one-year fellowship in the plastic surgery laboratories at New York University Medical Center. Dr. Rose then completed his training with a plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
For over 10 consecutive years, Dr. Rose has been recognized as a peer-determined Castle Connolly Top Doctor for the New York metropolitan area. He has been widely published in medical journals and featured in major local and national media.

Dr. Gary A. Tuma
With deep ties to the region, Dr. Tuma is a well-respected plastic surgeon who is double board-certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. In addition, he has achieved fellowship status in the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Prior to establishing Plastic Surgery Associates of NJ, Dr. Tuma practiced at Jefferson Plastic Surgery in Philadelphia where he was an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery. During this time he was a member of the faculty at Jefferson University Hospital, Albert Einstein Medical Center, and Methodist Hospital.
Dr. Tuma received his bachelor’s degree from Boston College and went on to obtain his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. He then completed his general surgery residency at Jefferson University Hospital. During his surgical residency, he spent an extra year as a Harrison Research Fellow in plastic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. His research involved looking at the use of adult fat as a source for stem cells and tissue engineering for soft tissue augmentation. Subsequently, he completed a plastic surgery residency at the prestigious Emory University in Atlanta where breast reconstruction approaches using the tram flap and latissimus flap as well as reconstruction using muscle flaps were developed. While at Emory, he was elected chief resident by the Chairman, T. Roderick Hester, MD.
In addition to providing outstanding clinical care to his patients, Dr. Tuma has been the recipient of various research grants and has published numerous articles and book chapters on breast reconstruction, soft tissue reconstruction and spinal wound reconstruction. He has also been an invited lecturer at teaching institutions, given presentations at local, regional and international forums and has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching.
