Susan G. Komen Central and South Jersey® Announces New Race for the Cure Additions
Runners and Walkers Will Experience New Race Course and Other Entertainment Activities

Race LogoLawrenceville, NJ, September 10, 2015 – Susan G. Komen Central and South Jersey (“CSNJ”) has announced exciting new features to be incorporated into the 22nd Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®. The traditional location of Six Flags Great Adventure (“SFGA”) remains, but a new course has been mapped out, as well as a new area for teams to meet and interact. What brings survivors back each year is the procession; this year there will be a live performance by Kristina Lachaga, “The Girl With The Big Pink Heart,” honoring breast cancer survivors.

On Sunday, October 4th, runners and walkers will be able to experience the sights and sounds of SFGA, as the race course will loop through the Six Flags Safari and Theme Park.  Susan G. Komen CSNJ is also introducing a new “Team Tailgate” area for Race for the Cure participants. Team captains and/or individuals who are interested in reserving a space to “own” on the Race site, have the opportunity to sign up, and decorate their area in their special Race day décor.

“We are very excited to offer teams and race participants these new race elements,” said Sally Shepherdson, Executive Director, Susan G. Komen Central and South Jersey. “The Susan G. Komen promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. By offering these new Race day Features, we are encouraging individuals to work towards that promise.”

Rising pop sensation Kristina Lachaga, 20, will be performing live during this year’s pre-race festivities and procession honoring breast cancer survivors. Hailing from New Jersey, “The Girl with the Big Pink Heart,” as she is known to her fans, is the perfect choice to sing at the Race for the Cure. Recently, Kristina has performed at iHeartRadio’s Z104.3 and Girls’ Life Magazine’s One Direction Pre-Party and opened for Heffron Drive (featuring Kendall Schmidt of Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush) at the State Fair Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ.

“I am so honored to be a part of this year’s Race for the Cure – the work Susan G. Komen Central and South Jersey does is absolutely inspiring,” Kristina says. “I hope my music with inspire the survivors and other to keep pushing forward and work towards a cure.” Kristina looks forward to meeting the survivors and race participants after her performance during the post-race expo.
