Letter from Komen CSNJ Board President, Celia Moncholi

Dear Friends,

I am honored to introduce myself as your new President of the Board of Directors of our Komen Central and South Jersey Affiliate. Our Affiliate’s impact since its inception has been amazing! For the past 15 years, Komen CSNJ has worked to reduce the impact of breast cancer in our local communities. And the need is great – our service area has the highest death rate and highest rate of late-stage diagnosis than New Jersey as a whole. The statistics are stark: 10 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in central and south Jersey each day and two will die every day from this disease.

Letter from Board Pres PiktochartIt is our job to change those numbers. To do so, we have provided tens of thousands of medically under-served women access to critical breast cancer screening and access to treatment. Seventy-five percent of Komen Central and South Jersey dollars stay local to support medically under-served women with life-saving resources. Through events like the Race for the Cure®, almost 500,000 individuals have benefited from our services that include free mammograms, diagnostics and education.

We serve 13 of New Jersey’s 21 counties – Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Salem and Somerset. Our service area is both culturally and demographically diverse in terms of race/ethnicity, age, and wealth.  We are always focused on the local needs of our neighbors and are dedicated to educating residents about breast cancer and the resources available.

Twenty-five percent of donated funds are pooled with other Komen affiliates to fund global breast cancer research. Komen Central and South Jersey has invested $4 million to New Jersey researchers who are working on cutting-edge breast cancer research.

In this way, we reach toward tomorrow to find the cures while helping individuals facing breast cancer today.

On behalf of Susan G. Komen Central and South Jersey’s Board of Directors, I thank you for your loyal support of Susan G. Komen’s mission; to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

Warmly,

Celia Moncholi
Komen CSNJ Board President
